Hiking Mt. Goken

For a long time now, I have seen this mountain in the distance. It is fairly close to where I stay in Yashima, but I’ve just never gotten around to it. Finally, yesterday, inspired by the absolutely perfect weather, I decided to recruit a friend of mine to the cause, and climb Mt. Goken, or Gokenzan! I like to think of it as a “facial silhouette” mountain… The resemblance is uncanny. I wanted to go to the nose, but unfortunately, the trail only led to the 85th Shikoku Temple. I had to settle for a temple and view. There are worse things I suppose. This mountain also still employs a working cable car, unlike Yashima’s abandoned one, as shown here.

After a nice hike, I met with a couple other friends to visit an onsen (hot spring/bath house) that I recently learned was in the area. Win!
